American Sign Language II
with Martin Samelson
ASL II will begin with a brief review of ASL I (basic sign language communication). ASL II is designed to raise your skill level and be a "user-friendly" place to practice the sign alphabet, finger-spelling, numbers, vocabulary (hand-shape, location, movement), and familiar phrases. Our goal is to increase your awareness of Deaf culture and build confidence for communication with Deaf and Hard of Hearing family, friends, co-workers and customers. Serious high school students, "baby sign" users, and Late-Deafened adults are welcome. Some previous sign language experience is helpful, but not necessary. Join Martin Samelson, energetic ASL college professor and job coach for the Deaf, in learning how to communicate without voice. ASL is a visual language so no textbook is required. ASL II includes 1 practice sessions prior to start of course, in addition to regularly scheduled classroom lesson. Practice sessions will review ASL I material to increase skill level and preview ASL II material so you can get a running start on new vocabulary and grammar. Your comfort and skill will increase by attending the practice session.
