Acadia National Park: Autumn Adventure

Let’s explore the beauty of Acadia National Park with the gorgeous fall colors, without the crowds! Our first stop at Sand Beach will include a picnic lunch provided by a local deli (with desserts from a local bakery!), followed by a leisurely cruise along Park Loop Road with stops at Thunder Hole and Otter Cliffs. Discovery the beauty of the sheer cliffs and ocean vistas as we make our way through the park, enjoying the scenery during peak foliage season! Let’s visit Jordan Pond House, where we’ll savor the view AND the popovers (an unlimited supply!), and then head to the summit of Cadillac Mountain for a bird’s eye view of Mount Desert Island. We’ll make a quick stop in Bar Harbor to check out the shops and galleries before we call it a day. This is one day in Acadia you won’t want to miss, so relax and enjoy the ride! Included in cost: lunch from a local deli and bakery (drink, sandwich, chips & desserts), park entrance fees, drink & unlimited popovers at Jordan Pond House. Dinner in Bar Harbor not included in cost. Please dress appropriately for the weather and bring extra layers, comfortable walking shoes, water and snacks, if you choose. Coastal Charm: Sebasco & Beyond

Let’s venture out to Phippsburg and explore the nooks and crannies of the coast by boat! First stop: a local bakery and cafe for homemade pastries and coffee. We’ll make our way to Sebasco Harbor Resort, home of the Ruth - a classic 38-foot wooden boat AND the oldest continuously operating passenger boat in Maine! Let’s enjoy the crisp fall air aboard the Ruth with a guided tour as we weave our way in and out of rugged islands and hidden harbors. Enjoy lunch on the seaside patio at The Ledges Pub and relax with a million-dollar view of the coastline after we return from our cruise! After we leave Sebasco, we’ll make a quick stop at Fort Popham State Historic Site to learn about the history of Phippsburg and see Popham Beach from a different angle. Remind yourself why you live on the coast of Maine! Included in cost: light breakfast from a local cafe (pastry and coffee), guided 1.5 hour cruise on the Ruth, and transportation. Lunch at The Ledges Pub not included in cost. Space is limited to 14 participants, so sign up early! Island Excursion: Monhegan

Here’s your chance to explore the best of Monhegan, one of Maine’s most treasured islands! For over 100 years, Monhegan has been home to a flourishing artist colony and fishing village. Don’t miss this opportunity to find out why! The island is yours to explore: hiking trails with endless views from picture-perfect cliffs, art galleries, beaches, a shipwreck along rocky shores, harbor views, museums, picturesque villages, and so much more! Let’s enjoy a guided tour and tasting with local brewers at Monhegan Brewing Company. Experience island time like never before - you won’t want to leave! There’s no better way to kick off autumn in Maine! Included in cost: transportation, ferry passage, trail map of the island, tour and tasting at Monhegan Brewing Company, and a few island-made goodies to take home. Lunch not included. We will be using a coach bus for transportation, equipped with a restroom. Please dress appropriately for the weather and bring extra layers, comfortable walking shoes, water and snacks, if you choose. This trip is designed for active individuals who are comfortable walking for substantial distances on uneven, somewhat steep, terrain. Hiking is not a requirement and is based on individual preference, but walking is required on the island. This trip is family-friendly. Bring your sense of adventure! 

Maine Bucket List: Acadia National Park with Chris Toy

Weekend highlights include: Cadillac Mountain sunrise and hike, lunch at Jordan Pond House and Jordan Pond Loop Trail, sightseeing and photography opportunities along the Park Loop Road, shopping and dining in Bar Harbor, and cooking lessons with Chris (followed by two delicious, locally-sourced dinners)! This is one weekend adventure you won’t want to miss! The cost of the trip includes: 2 nights’ lodging at a 6 bedroom AirBnB (shared rooms), park admission and vehicle passes (carpool), 2 continental breakfasts, 2 dinners with cooking lessons from a professional chef, and guided hikes with a Registered Maine Guide. Lunches are not included in the cost of the trip. Transportation arrangements for carpooling from Freeport in personal vehicles will be made in advance. Additional information and a pack list will be provided prior to the trip. Mt. Washington Valley: Foliage & Covered Bridges

Bring your sense of adventure as we explore historic covered bridges surrounded by quaint villages and untouched forests of reds, yellows, and oranges! Wind your way through rocky river valleys and mountain passes as we enjoy the vibrant colors that surround us in the White Mountains. Let’s relax on the banks of the Swift River along the Kancamagus Scenic Byway with a picnic lunch provided by a local cafe while we admire the scenery. We’ll stop in beautiful Jackson Village in the heart of Mt. Washington Valley with covered bridges and mountain views all around us. After we’ve gone over the river and through the woods, we’ll visit North Conway Village. Check out local shops, general stores, cafes, galleries, restaurants, the historic train station and the mountain views from the park! If you’ve never seen the foliage in Mt. Washington Valley, this is your chance! Don’t miss this opportunity to explore the best of autumn in New England! Newport Mansions: Christmas in the Gilded Age

Join us as we make our way back in time to the Gilded Age in Newport, Rhode Island! If you’ve never visited the Newport Mansions before, this is your chance to see them in all their glory! Our first stop will be The Elms, which was modeled after the mid-18th century French Chateau d’Asnieres. Next stop: The Breakers! The Breakers was constructed for the Vanderbilt family in 1895, with 70 rooms and 125,000 square feet; it was designed in the architectural style of the Italian Renaissance and is considered the archetype of the Gilded Age. The Breakers will be decorated for a traditional High Victorian Christmas and will also feature a 15-foot tall red poinsettia tree composed of 150 individual plants, 9-foot tall Christmas trees, and hundreds of live flowers, including poinsettias, lilies, azaleas, paperwhites, amaryllis, and mini-evergreens, just to name a few. Each mansion will be decorated with historical accuracy and will be sure to get you in the holiday spirit, to say the least! You haven’t seen mansions until you’ve seen the Newport Mansions, so get ready to experience the Christmas season like you’ve never experienced it before! Included in cost: guided tours of the mansions, a unique keepsake from the mansions, and lunch at a local pub in Newport. Pemaquid: Harvest & Hauntings!

Discover the charms of the Pemaquid Peninsula, just in time for Halloween! Let’s stop at Fort William Henry and Colonial Pemaquid State Historic Site, one of the “most haunted places in America,” and explore beautiful Pemaquid Beach in the gorgeous autumn weather! Next, we’ll pick up lunch (and homemade dessert!) from a local cafe and visit one of Maine’s most iconic (and most haunted!) lighthouses - Pemaquid Point Lighthouse! Let’s enjoy lunch on the rocky coast of Maine and make our way to a local apple orchard and farm stand for a tour and cider tasting (and maybe a cider donut or two, just to fully embrace the flavors of fall!). We’ll head to downtown Damariscotta to explore the boutiques, cafes, the book shop, the general store, and the picturesque waterfront! Don’t miss this opportunity to explore the best of the Pemaquid Peninsula! Included in cost: entrance fees, lunch from a local cafe (sandwich, chips, drink & dessert), cider tour and tasting with one homemade donut. Seguin Island: September Sun

If you’ve never been to Seguin Island, this is your chance! This beautiful little island is a true gem! Enjoy hiking trails, 360 degree views from rugged cliffs, and an endless ocean horizon! Seguin Island is a 64-acre island two miles off the coast of Phippsburg, home of Maine’s second oldest lighthouse! Seguin Light is the only lighthouse in the state using a first-order Fresnel lens and is also the highest lighthouse in the state at 180 feet above sea level. Let’s tour the museum and the lighthouse with the caretakers, and learn about local legends - Seguin has the reputation of being the most haunted lighthouse in Maine. This is one island you’ll want to visit again and again! Don’t miss this opportunity to discover the little-known secret of this gorgeous island! We will travel to the island on a small ferry boat. Please dress appropriately for the weather; bring layers, shoes that can get wet (sandals) AND shoes for walking, a bag lunch and a bottle of water, sunscreen, motion sickness treatment (if desired), and a sense of adventure! Please note that everything is carry in-carry out and there is one outhouse available on the island. The initial hike is a steep incline, so please note that this trip is designed for active individuals. In the event of rain or rough seas, the rain date will be Wednesday, September 11.
