Our Classes

Just Once Piano

Some music teachers may not want you to know this, but you don’t need years of weekly lessons to learn piano. In just a few hours, you can learn enough secrets of the trade to give you years of musical enjoyment. How do we do it? While regular piano teachers teach note reading, piano professionals use chords. You can learn all the chords you’ll need to play ny song in this one session. Any song. Any style. Any key. If you can find middle C and now the meaning of Every Good Boy Does Fine, you already know enough to enroll in this workshop. Total beginners can request a free pamphlet by sending a SASE to Innovative Keyboard Instruction, 2841 S. Southwind Dr., Gilbert, AZ 85296. Required materials fee of $29 for workbook and practice CD will be collected in class by the instructor.

Keyhole Gardening

Join Clark Whittier, UMaine Cooperative Extension Master Gardener, and learn about keyhole gardening! Keyhole gardening uses 70% less water and is 29” high, so it’s great for senior citizens with mobility issues. Learn how to make soil using leaves, grass clippings, wet cardboard, sticks and compost, and find out how to use kitchen scraps for nutrients. Discover the benefits of keyhole gardens! 

Kripalu Yoga For Beginners: Session I

Have you always wanted to try yoga? If you would you like to improve your strength, flexibility, balance, and reduce stress, then this class is for you! Each class begins with relaxation or meditation, followed by breath work (Pranayama) and warming up the body for Asana (yoga postures). Focus on alignment and body awareness while gaining strength and balance. Class will conclude with relaxation and a short meditation. Modifications will be given to ensure a safe and rewarding practice for all! All levels are welcome.

Learn how to prep for a ride and about the bearing system, hubs, headsets and bottom bracket. Learn about the assessment steps and adjustments to maintain your bike. Keep your bike running smoothly and reliably! Please bring your bike to class.  

Maine Driving Dynamics

Improve your defensive driving skills. Taught by a certified MDD instructor, topics in this course will include collision avoidance, safety issues, driver habits, and the challenges you face on the road. Completion of the course entitles you to a three-point credit on your driving record.

Maine Flower Show

The Maine Flower Show, owned and produced by members of Maine’s horticulture industry, is one of the biggest gardening and horticultural shows in the region. With a new location and new management, the Maine Flower Show at Thompson’s Point in Portland boasts more display gardens, more exhibits, more planting and outdoor living inspiration than any local show. In addition to display gardens, the 2018 Maine Flower Show will have 100 exhibits of plants, hardscape, arbor and garden supplies, hands-on workshops and seminars led by experts in growing and outdoor living. Growing enthusiasts enjoy this one-of-a-kind horticultural experience each year. Lunch is available on-site for purchase or you may bring your own.

Maine-Made Candles

Candles make great gifts for others, or even yourself! Now you can learn how to make candles that are just as great, if not better, than what you can find in stores! Master the basic skills of working with soy wax and fragrance oil blends. Become familiar with safety considerations, review necessary equipment, learn about different types of wicks and how to scent them. Materials included for two candles per person.
