Calendar Mar 8, 2018 at 5:30 pm, runs for 5 weeks

Discover the art of painting with watercolors! Develop your abilities as a painter, while gaining an understanding of the tools and terms used in this medium. Experiment with dry, damp and wet surfaces to explore and develop your sense of creativity! In addition to mastering basic washes, let’s investigate a variety of application techniques, including glazing and layering. Don’t miss this opportunity to embrace your creative spirit and develop your skills as an artist! Please supply your own materials. A list of basic, inexpensive materials is available below.

Materials

Paper

Basic paper weights are:90, 140, 200, 300 and 400 pounds.

I usually start out using the readily available and not too costly 140 lb.  Also, I recommend the Cold-press. Hot press paper is moother.

Strathmore Watercolor cold press   9 x 12  is a nice basic paper.

Canson Watercolor cold press  9 x 12 in a spiral booklet is also good. Watercolor Paper Blocks are also good because they don't buckle with the water. You can use the 140 lb because the edges are glued down.

Brushes

The most essential brushes to begin are: No. 8 or 9 (round) this is the workhorse buy a good one1/2 inch to 1 inch (flat - wash) No. 1 Rigger (fine detail)

Paints

Cadmium Yellow (pale hue)

Ultramarine

Cadmium Red Hue

The tubes will offer a good value. Cotman is available and not too pricey.

Miscellaneous Essentials

A couple of soft rags, a few paper towels, 2 qt size plastic containers for water, either a palette or a white dish.
